Mazen Kerbaj – One Year Or So

Für die 2. Ausstellung im Café Beirut freuen besucht uns der Zeichner und Experimentalmusiker Mazen Kerbaj aus Beirut. In seinen Comic Zeichnungen verarbeitet er seine Alltagsrealität in einem instabilen und von Krieg geprägten Staat. Er schafft es Geschichten zu vermitteln, die trotz allem Ernst einen gewissen Humor bewahren. Neben seinen Zeichnungen hat sich Kerbaj als Experimentalmusiker international einen Namen gemacht. Als Künstler und Veranstalter hat er in seiner Heimat die Szene für Improvisationsmusik mit aufgebaut. Am Tag nach der Vernissage gibt Kerbaj unter dem titel trumpet is perfect for that eine Einführung in die eigene musikalische Sprache, die er mit seinem Instrument entwickelt hat.
For the 2nd exhibition in Café Beirut, we expect a visit form the drawer and experimental musician Mazen Kerbaj from Beirut. His comics deal with everyday life in a nation marked by war and instability. He achieves to tell serious stories that still transport a certain kind of humour. In addition to his drawings Kerbaj is pursuing an international career as experimental musician. As artist and organizer he helped establish the Lebanese scene for improvised music. The day after the opening Kerbaj will give an introduction to the language of music that he developed with his instrument. The workshop is called trumped is perfect for that.

Café Beirut Ausstellungsprojekt
25.05. – 30.08.2016
Unter dem Titel Café Beirut legt die Griesbadgalerie in Ulm für 3 Monate den Fokus auf zeitgenössische Kunst aus dem Nahen Osten. Neben 4 Ausstellungen finden Aktionen im öffentlichen Raum und Veranstaltungen wie Lesungen, Vorträge oder Filmvorführungen statt. Das Café Beirut ist von 25. Mai bis 30 August in einem leeren Ladenlokal (Gideon-Bacher-Straße3, Ulm) installiert. Dieser funktioniert als Ausstellungsraum, Treffpunkt und Zentrale des Projekts.
Under the title Café Beirut Griesbadgalerie sets a focus on contemporary art from the Middle East for a period of 3 Months. Next to 4 exhibitions there will be actions in public space, lectures, readings, Movies etc. Café Beirut is located in an empty store space in Gideon-Bacher-Straße 3, Ulm from 25th May to 30th August. The location serves as exhibition space, meeting point and base for the project.
